The Root of the Overwhelm: What’s Really Draining You?

 

Have you ever found yourself exhausted by 9 a.m., and not just physically—but emotionally and spiritually drained too?

You’re doing all the things—laundry, dishes, meals, work, homeschooling maybe—but still feel like it’s never enough.

 Sometimes the source of our overwhelm isn’t what’s on our to-do list—it’s what’s underneath it.

The Surface vs. the Source

The things that are on the surface: Schedules, housework, noise, demands of kids. But the source of your overwhelm is a lot more: Emotional load, perfectionism, unhealed wounds, comparison, spiritual disconnection.

❤️ Common Hidden Drains

  • People-pleasing – Saying yes to everyone but yourself or God.

  • Perfectionism – Trying to earn rest or worth by performing.

  • Unrealistic expectations – Social media, comparison with other moms.

  • Lack of boundaries – Especially with time, family, or commitments.

  • Spiritual dryness – Pouring out without being poured into.

🔍 Reflection

Invite them to journal or pray through these:

  • What am I constantly anxious or resentful about?

  • Where am I trying to prove something?

  • What’s one thing I’m doing out of guilt instead of grace?

  • When was the last time I felt spiritually refilled?

🌱 Practical Steps to Start Healing the Root

  • Daily 5-minute “well” check-ins: Pause, breathe, pray, ask God what needs attention.

  • Start subtracting before you add: What can you say “no” to this week?

  • Anchor your identity in God, not your roles: Speak biblical affirmations over yourself.

  • Nourish your spirit before you pour out: Worship, scripture, or even silence in the car.

Friend, your overwhelm is not a failure—it’s a signal. A loving nudge from God to come back to the Well, where He restores what no planner or podcast ever could.
